In this article, we will learn how to install Tor service in Kali Linux. Kali Linux comes with pre-installed Tor service. Using Tor makes it more difficult to trace Internet activity, including “visits to Web sites, online posts, instant messages, and other communication forms”, back to the user and is intended to protect users’ personal freedom, privacy, and ability to conduct confidential business by keeping their internet activities from being monitored. Tor directs Internet traffic through a free, worldwide, volunteer overlay network consisting of more than seven thousand relays to conceal a user’s location and usage from anyone conducting network surveillance or traffic analysis. The name is derived from an acronym for the original software project name “The Onion Router”. Tor is free software for enabling anonymous communication. It is maintained and funded by Offensive Security Ltd. Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and penetration testing.
